Other Fun Gags in Couple-Up Contest

Although Ed Bertoli took top honors in this first Last Kiss Couple-Up contest, there were hundreds of other submissions and many of them were hilarious.

In fact, I ended up naming not one, but five runners-up:

Him: Kiss me, my darling.

Her: Braiiiins!

Charles Kramer

Roger: I’ve just realized how much you look like MOM!!!!!!

Wife: Who wants a spanking ?!

Helen Stockfleth

Oh no! I just realized – I’M ALLERGIC TO METAL!!!!!

Gary Dunaier

ROGER: You would be perfect had I included a heat source. Unfortunately, you’re cold.

ROBOT: Then I am the perfect duplicate of your wife.

Keiko Alvarez

Roger: You just keep going and going… I’m exhausted.

—Jacqueline Hallenbeck

Other Fun Submissions

And there were lots of other great gags that came very close to cinching one of the top spots. Here are some, but certainly not all:

Roger: You’ve e-wired into my bank account, my PayPal account, my credit cards! And you’ve spent it all on online shopping!

Robot: Resistance is futile… especially when it comes to shoes.

—Janet Heatherington

Wonder Woman: A Slave to Her Desires?

Although her image is fairly tame today, in the early 1940s Wonder Woman was the Amazon Princess of kinky. Bondage was a major theme in the series. Seriously!

Last Kissin’ at Emerald City Comicon

I’ve cut way back on convention appearances, but I wouldn’t think of skipping the March 1-3 Emerald City Comicon.

Even if this it wasn’t taking place here in Seattle, I’d hate to miss this. For sheer energy and fun per square foot, it’s my favorite convention every year.

I’ll be at the Last Kiss Booth (#2202) during most of the show. Come by, say “hi” and get a free Last Kiss tattoo!

Yes, Roy Thomas Has Done a Few Things Besides Last Kiss

This page of Conan is copyright---of course---Marvel Comics.

I’m sure Roy Thomas considers guest writing the Feb.17, 2013 Last Kiss the highlight of his career. But Roy has done a few other things worth mentioning. For instance…

Roy was Stan Lee’s first staff writer in the early years of Marvel Comics. Over the years, Roy wrote everything from Millie the Model to Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos and X-Men.

But Roy’s signature series was Conan the Barbarian. (Although his run on The Avengers was similarly iconic—at least as far as I’m concerned.)

After Stan become publisher, Roy became Marvel’s editor-in-chief.

Later, after Roy left Marvel, he wrote a lot of great comics such as All-Star Squadron, Justice Society of America, Wonder Woman, and the fun and very funny Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew.

Plus…oh, heck. Look it up. It’s an incredible body of award-winning work.

I’m thrilled that Roy took time away from editing Alter Ego Magazine and everything else he does) to write a bit of Last Kiss.

Thanks, Roy!

Last Kiss Couple-Up Contest

Feeling funny?

Enter the Last Kiss Couple Up Contest.

The caption contest for lovers!

Funny lovers! Romantic lovers!

And, of course, comic lovers!

Launching a week before Valentine’s Day, the Last Kiss Couple-Up Contest features classic romance art and a deliberately silly caption by Papercutz Editor-in-Chief (and comics legend) Jim Salicrup.

It’s only one panel of art, but that’s part of the challenge. Can you use Salicrup’s caption (featuring a robot spouse) as a starting point and write hilarious dialogue short enough to fit into just a single panel?

This is the first in a series of quarterly Couple-Up celebrity writing contests planned by Last Kiss creator John Lustig.
