I Lead a Simple Life

I Lead a Simple Life

I love the photos, but I’ll admit that I haven’t watched the film they’re taken from—yet. From the clips I’ve seen and the Wikipedia listing and the IMDB description that I’ve read, this is one very highly stylized, supremely campy and weird movie.

In short, as a serious movie—it’s not to be recommended. But as unintentionally funny tale with a lot of interesting visuals—maybe.

If you want to check it out, the whole film is on Youtube here.

Transcript:

SCENE: A photo of a woman wearing a fancy, feathered headpiece and many jewels. She has her eyes closed.

WOMAN: I lead a simple life. Just me and my servants! And perhaps their families. I’m not really sure, but…I think
they might live in one of my nicer dungeons!

Alla Nazimova in the title role of the 1923 film Salome.
New dialogue by John Lustig
